Sleep problems are very common during the menopause transition, affecting approximately 40–60% of peri- and postmenopausal women. Many individuals experience disrupted sleep or frequent nighttime awakenings, although difficulty falling asleep and waking too early are also common concerns. Sleep disturbances during menopause can have multiple contributing factors, including night sweats, hormonal changes, anxiety, and depression. Even women without vasomotor symptoms (VMS) may still experience significant sleep disruption. In addition, the risk of sleep apnea increases after menopause and should be considered when evaluating ongoing sleep concerns. Poor sleep can negatively affect quality of life, mood, daily functioning, and work productivity, and may also contribute to longer-term health risks such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and cognitive decline.

Hot flashes/night sweats can distrurb sleep and MHT can be helpful in stopping hot flashes and progesterone with MHT can aid with sleep issues.

There are also other medications that can assist with poor sleep. Individual preferences and medical history will guide prescribing.
