Welcome to your first medical weight loss visit

Health Benefits Coverage

Many patients with employer-sponsored health benefits can use their Health Spending Account (HSA) to cover services provided through the Peri/Menopause and Sexual Wellness Clinic. We recommend checking with your benefits provider regarding your specific coverage details.

Our goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps you achieve meaningful improvements in your health, confidence, and overall quality of life.

Step 1: Complete Your Comprehensive Intake Questionnaire

Once your appointment is booked, you will receive a detailed medical intake questionnaire designed to gather information about your medical history, current symptoms, medications, lifestyle habits, weight history, and goals of care.

This information allows Tanya to gain a thorough understanding of your health concerns before your appointment and helps maximize the value of your consultation.

Step 2: Review of Your Health Information & Laboratory Testing

Your intake forms will be carefully reviewed prior to your appointment. Depending on your medical history and symptoms, laboratory blood work may be arranged ahead of time to assess your overall health, identify factors contributing to weight concerns, and evaluate any medical conditions that may influence treatment recommendations.

Laboratory testing ordered through the clinic is covered by provincial healthcare plans.

Step 3: Your Initial Consultation

At your scheduled appointment time, you will meet virtually with Tanya for a comprehensive consultation lasting approximately 45 minutes.

During this visit, you will review your health history, symptoms, questionnaire responses, weight loss challenges, previous treatment attempts, and any available laboratory results. This is an opportunity to discuss how weight concerns may be impacting your physical health, emotional well-being, and quality of life.

A whole-person approach is taken to care. In addition to discussing weight management, Tanya will review factors that can influence weight and overall health, including:

Cardiovascular health
Blood pressure and cholesterol
Diabetes and metabolic health
Sleep quality and sleep apnea risk
Mental health and emotional well-being
Nutrition and physical activity
Preventive health screening needs
Any recommended preventive health screenings, such as mammograms, cervical cancer screening, or colorectal cancer screening, will also be discussed and arranged as appropriate.

Step 4: Developing Your Personalized Treatment Plan

Treatment options will be reviewed in detail, including the potential benefits, risks, side effects, and alternatives available.

Tanya believes in collaborative, evidence-based care and wants patients to feel informed, supported, and empowered when making decisions about their health. Together, you will develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your medical history, preferences, lifestyle, and weight management goals.

Treatment recommendations may include:

Nutrition and lifestyle strategies
Physical activity recommendations
Behavioural and habit-based approaches
Prescription weight management medications when appropriate
When appropriate, prescriptions will be provided and sent directly to your preferred pharmacy. If additional testing or investigation is required before treatment can safely begin, this will be arranged and discussed with you.

Step 5: Ongoing Follow-Up and Support

Weight management is a long-term journey, and ongoing follow-up appointments are an important part of achieving safe and sustainable results.

Many weight management medications require gradual dose increases over time to maximize effectiveness while minimizing side effects. Regular follow-up visits also allow for:

Monitoring progress and treatment response
Managing side effects
Adjusting medication doses when needed
Reviewing nutrition and physical activity goals
Addressing new concerns or challenges
Ongoing prescribing and support
Follow-up appointments are approximately 20 minutes in length.
