Welcome to your first perimenopause/menopause visit.
Health Benefits Coverage
Many patients with employer-sponsored health benefits can use their Health Spending Account (HSA) to cover services provided through the Peri/Menopause and Sexual Wellness Clinic. We recommend checking with your benefits provider regarding your specific coverage details.
Our goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps you navigate perimenopause and menopause with confidence while improving your long-term health and quality of life.
Step 1: Complete Your Comprehensive Intake Questionnaire
Once your appointment is booked, you will receive a detailed medical intake questionnaire designed to gather information about your medical history, current symptoms, medications, lifestyle habits, and goals of care.
This information allows Tanya to gain a thorough understanding of your health concerns before your appointment and helps maximize the value of your consultation.
Step 2: Review of Your Health Information & Laboratory Testing
Your intake forms will be carefully reviewed prior to your appointment. Depending on your symptoms, medical history, and risk factors, laboratory blood work or additional diagnostic testing may be arranged ahead of time.
This testing helps assess your overall health, identify contributing factors to symptoms, and evaluate any risks that may influence treatment recommendations. Laboratory testing ordered through the clinic is covered by provincial healthcare plans.
Step 3: Your Initial Consultation
At your scheduled appointment time, you will meet virtually with Tanya for a comprehensive consultation lasting approximately 45 minutes.
During this visit, you will review your health history, symptoms, questionnaire responses, and any available laboratory results. This is an opportunity to discuss how perimenopause or menopause may be affecting your health, well-being, relationships, work, and overall quality of life.
Step 4: A Whole-Person Health Assessment
Menopause affects much more than just hormone levels. A comprehensive, whole-person approach is taken to ensure all aspects of your health are considered.
Topics discussed may include:
- Hot flashes and night sweats
- Sleep quality and fatigue
- Mood, anxiety, and cognitive changes
- Cardiovascular health
- Bone health and osteoporosis risk
- Weight and metabolic health
- Genitourinary symptoms and bladder health
- Sexual health and intimacy concerns
- Preventive health and cancer screening
Any outstanding preventive health screenings, such as mammograms, cervical cancer screening, or colorectal cancer screening, will also be discussed and arranged as appropriate.
Step 5: Developing Your Personalized Treatment Plan
Treatment options will be reviewed in detail, including their potential benefits, risks, side effects, and alternatives.
Tanya believes in collaborative, evidence-based care and wants patients to feel informed, supported, and empowered when making decisions about their health. Together, you will develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your symptoms, medical history, preferences, and goals.
Treatment recommendations may include:
- Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT)
- Non-hormonal prescription medications
- Lifestyle and nutrition strategies
- Sleep optimization
- Sexual health treatments
- Vaginal and bladder health treatments
- Bone health and cardiovascular risk reduction strategies
Step 6: Prescriptions, Testing & Referrals
When appropriate, prescriptions will be provided and sent directly to your preferred pharmacy.
If additional testing or specialist consultation is needed before treatment can safely begin, further investigations or referrals will be arranged and discussed with you.
Step 7: Ongoing Follow-Up and Support
Menopause care is an ongoing journey, and regular follow-up appointments are an important part of achieving the best possible outcomes.
Symptoms, health risks, and treatment needs can change over time.
Follow-up appointments, which are typically virtual and approximately 20 minutes in length, allow for:
Monitoring symptom improvement
Assessing treatment effectiveness
Managing side effects
Adjusting medications when needed
Ongoing prescribing
Addressing new concerns
Continued education and support
